The Amazon Business Prime American Express Card is a business credit card geared to small business owners and entrepreneurs who spend frequently with the online retailer.
This card does not charge an annual fee. However, you must have an eligible Amazon Prime membership to qualify for the rewards program. If you already have a personal Prime account, you can add on an Amazon Business membership for $69 per year.
When you open an Amazon Business Prime American Express Card, you can qualify for a $125 Amazon gift card after account approval.

Introductory Offer

While this card doesn’t offer a traditional introductory rate for purchases, you can choose to enroll in an interest-free period after making eligible purchases with Amazon. You’ll sacrifice your 5% rewards on that spending, but you can instead qualify for 90 days of 0% APR on eligible purchases.

Rewards

This card’s highest rewards are with Amazon, but there are other rewards categories, too. You’ll get 5% back on Amazon spending when you don’t opt into the payment terms instead (on the first $120,000 in purchases each calendar year with eligible Prime membership, then 1% back). Plus, get 2% back on U.S. purchases at restaurants, gas stations, and wireless phone services purchased directly from service providers; and 1% back on other purchases.
According to the card’s terms, eligible purchases that qualify for 5% back include: purchases at Amazon.com, Amazon.com/Business, U.S. Whole Foods Market locations, including Whole Foods Market 365 stores and www.wholefoodsmarket.com, U.S. Amazon Go locations, U.S. Amazon Books locations and the business or businesses operating as Amazon Web Services in the U.S. After you reach a combined $120,000 in spending each calendar year, you’ll earn 1% back. However, eligible purchases you make but choose instead to enroll in the 90-day payment terms do not count toward the $120,000 cap.
When you’re ready to redeem your rewards, you can use them to shop for purchases at Amazon.com, or you can apply your rewards as a statement credit on your account.
If you want more flexibility in how you redeem your rewards, check out business credit cards that earn points in the Amex Membership Rewards or Chase Ultimate Rewards programs.
The Amazon Business Prime American Express Card doesn’t charge an annual fee or any foreign transaction fees. Fees that can apply include a 3% (minimum $5) cash advance fee, a late fee up to $39 and a returned payment fee up to $39. This card does not charge an overlimit fee.
If you pay late or your payment is returned, you may also take on a penalty APR up to 29.24%.

Other Benefits

This card comes with only a few added benefits beyond rewards and payment terms. You’ll get access to free expense management tools and free cards for employees, and you can connect your account directly to QuickBooks for simplified reporting. Other benefits include a baggage insurance plan, secondary auto rental coverage, access to a Global Assist hotline, purchase protection and extended warranties.
If you’re looking for a way to help your business save on Amazon purchases each year, the Amazon Business Prime American Express Card can help you get ahead. Maxing out the spending cap for the top rewards rate with $120,000 in Amazon and Whole Foods purchases can net you $6,000 cash back each year.

And if your business has long periods between cash flow, the option to choose payment terms of 90-days of no interest on your spending can help you save, too — especially for costly purchases. While you will have to give up rewards on eligible purchases to qualify, this can help you pay down your balance without racking up considerable interest charges.
Still there are a few important reasons to consider other cards. For starters, the 90-day terms with no interest on individual purchases can be less valuable than 0% APR terms offered by some other business cards offer. In fact, some business cards offer zero interest on purchases for a much longer timeline without having to sacrifice your rewards.
With the no annual fee American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card, for example, you can earn a flat 2% back on up to $50,000 in purchases each year (then 1% back), and 0% APR on purchases for 12 months (followed by a variable APR of 13.24% to 21.24%).
The Amazon Business Prime American Express Card’s $125 Amazon gift card welcome offer is also lower in value than many other business rewards cards. In fact, you can find some cards that offer generous welcome bonuses worth $1,000 or more.

How to Use Amazon Business Prime American Express Card

Before you apply, make sure you have an eligible Prime membership, so you can qualify for this card’s 5% rewards rate and 90-day payment terms. Without Prime, you can still qualify for a basic version of the card, but its rewards are much lower value, with only 3% back on Amazon purchases and 60-day payment terms.
After you’re approved, use your Amazon Business Prime American Express Card for all your business spending with Amazon and Whole Foods. Just keep in mind that you’ll only earn the 5% back rate on up to $120,000 in eligible purchases each year, after which you’ll earn 1% back. If you choose 90-day terms with 0% APR instead of rewards on a new purchase, make sure you can pay off your balance within the 90 days. After that, your APR will revert to the regular variable interest rate of 14.24% to 22.24%.
You can also maximize rewards by using your card in 2% bonus categories, including U.S. restaurants, gas stations, and wireless phone services purchased directly from service providers.

If your business spends a lot with Amazon every month and you’re already a Prime member, the Amazon Business Prime American Express Card’s rewards can add up to big savings over time. You’ll earn 5% back on up to $120,000 spent on eligible purchases each year, which is hard to beat if your regular spending is already focused on Amazon purchases.
Just make sure you compare other options that might be a better fit for your business spending. If you don’t make a majority of your purchases with Amazon, you may want a card with better rewards in bonus categories where you do spend more frequently, like advertising costs or travel. Or if your spending varies month-to-month, a flat rewards card could be more valuable in the long-run. On the other hand, if you’re more interested in a card that offers 0% APR on an upcoming large purchase, you can find other business card options with interest-free periods of a year or longer that may better suit your needs.
