Kevin Hart’s satirical action-comedy feature “Die Hart,” which condenses the original ten-episode shortform series from the defunct Quibi service into a full-length movie, will now be getting a worldwide launch on Amazon Prime video on February 24th.
Hart plays a fictionalized version of himself as he sets out to pivot away from being pigeonholed as a comedy wingman in order to be taken seriously as an action movie star.
In order to do so, he attends an ‘action hero school’ run by Ron Wilcox (John Travolta), where he learns the ropes in an attempt to become one of the industry’s most coveted action stars.
Nathalie Emmanuel, Josh Hartnett and Jean Reno co-star. The original series was launched on Quibi in the U.S. back in 2020 with Roku picking up the rights when it acquired Quibi’s assets.
As the Roku Channel isn’t really available outside the U.S., the film version offers a more accessible template that can be widely distributed on Amazon around the globe. In addition it makes for good promotion of the in production “Die Hart 2: Die Harter” which will see John Cena, Ben Schwartz and Paula Pell co-star.
Series director Eric Appel (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine”) and writer Derek Kolstad (“John Wick” trilogy) refashioned and recut the show into the film version that, along with the Amazon release, will be screened in select cinemas in South Africa.
